How To Use Generic Lyrica Pregabalin Tablets
Lyrica comes in tablet formulations of 25mg, 50mg, 75mg, 100mg, 150mg, and 200mg. The medicine can be taken with a glassful of water, but if it upsets your stomach and the doctor consents, you can take the medicine with food. Take the dose as prescribed by your doctor.
The dose differs from one individual to another, depending upon the ailment, and the severity of the disorder. This medicine is mostly given to adults. Do not change your dose unless your physician tells you to do so.
In patients who suffer from epilepsy, initially 2 doses of 75mg, or 3 doses of 50mg are given daily, but the maximum dosage does not usually exceed 600mg a day. For postherpetic neuralgia also the same doses are given, but the maximum dose is usually not more than 300mg per day.
For fibromyalgia, initial doses of 75mg are given twice a day, with the maximum dosage being 450mg in a day.
For patients suffering from diabetic neuropathy, a dose of 50mg is given thrice a day, with 300mg being the maximum dose normally given to such patients.
There are different doses for patients with such problems who are put on hemodialysis.
The dose is normally increased slowly, as tolerated, to the level acceptable so that the patient gets full benefit of the medicine. Likewise, when the medicine has to be discontinued, in normal circumstances, the dose is gradually reduced, before being totally stopped. If you suddenly stop taking the medicine, you may experience withdrawal symptoms such as headaches, insomnia or disturbed sleep, diarrhea and nausea.
Missed Dose and Overdose of Lyrica
Never take two doses of this medicine together. If you have missed a dose, take it as soon as you remember, but only if there is sufficient time left for the next dose; otherwise leave out the missed dose, and go on to the next one. In case of doubt, please consult your doctor.
Even if you begin to feel better soon, continue to take the dose as prescribed to you, until you have completed the therapy, for if you stop taking the medicine mid-way, your seizures may increase.
If you feel you have taken an overdose and experience serious side effects, immediately contact your local poison control center or emergency room.
